Installer of high efficiency DEFRA approved and Ecodesign wood and solid-fuel burners

There is no better company throughout the long, cold days and nights of winter than a real fire. Even the sight of a wood fire can have a warming effect on your bones, and many people are choosing to install solid fuel stoves in place of their gas fires or open fires.

A modern high efficiency stove will release noticeably more heat into your home than a gas-fueled or open fire. Not only are more people using solid fuel heating as a means of offsetting rising gas costs, there is also something satisfying about splitting and stacking wood and building your own fires, and as a lot of modern stove models have large clear windows fitted into them, you can enjoy the maximum heat out of your fire without missing out on its mesmerising aesthetic. A large range of modern stoves available are so efficient at burning their fuel that they can be installed and used in designated smokeless areas of cities. Look for the DEFRA approved designation when choosing your new stove if you live in a smokeless area.

ABOUT US

Based in St. Werburghs in Bristol, we are keen to bring the type of warmth that only a burner can bring into your home.

We are a small company, usually consisting of a team of two with close to 15 years experience fitting wood and solid fuel burners in the homes of Bristol and its surrounding areas, working independently, we have full public liability insurance and are HETAS registered installers.

Giving you the results you want is important to us and we are happy to provide you with advice on all aspects of the installation, from what type of stove might be best for the room and your needs, to the internal and external finishes we can achieve in and around your fireplace. Ultimately, we want you to choose the stove and the finish that you like, after all it is you that will be enjoying it, but we are happy to pass on our experience and opinion to help you decide should you need it.

As well as fitting your stove we undertake all the necessary building work usually required to make safe, tidy up and beautify the fireplace in which your new stove will sit, which means we can typically complete the work within a day or two.

THE PROCESS

After we have replied to your enquiry, we will then arrange a site visit to discuss details of what you require and a quote will be sent to you at no cost.

On site, any building work, if needed, will be be tackled first. Working on chimneys can be a messy process so we take every precaution to protect your carpet, furniture and other belongings from the inevitable dust. We will provide dust sheets and extraction for this part of the job.

Installing a flexible stainless steel flue liner in your chimney is something we recommend as standard on all of our jobs, this guarantees a safe, gas-tight flue and therefore peace of mind. The liner will also help your stove perform to its maximum efficiency and is easier to sweep than the larger diameter and convoluted chimney in the average house. The liner is pulled up or down the chimney on a rope and requires access to  the top of the chimney stack, this can usually be reached by ladders but in some cases scaffold is needed. Once the liner is situated in the flue, any work such as chimney pot mounting or re-haunching the top of the chimney stack is completed, and a rain cap/bird cowl is fixed to the top of the liner.

The stove is assembled and situated in the desired place on the hearth and connected to the chimney liner with a length of flue pipe. a carbon monoxide detector will be mounted on a wall nearby and the appliance then tested and signed off. You will receive a copy of the HETAS certificate and after that you are pretty much good to go.

TESTIMONIALS

Paul was quick, efficient and knowledgeable. He installed our stove, raised the lintel and fitted a flu liner in one day, he even showed me the best way to build a fire. He was professional, approachable and left our living room dust free, great service!

J Lanyon and J Lyons

We chose Paul to do my wood burner because he was up for exposing the brick work and his quote was very competitive. Paul was efficient, professional and kept in good contact. He was extremely tidy, taking all of the rubbish away on the same day and cleaning the rooms at the end of each day! I would recommend Paul because he has a real attention to detail. We are so pleased with the work he’s done. Our fireplace and wood burner are beautiful and keep us toasty warm.
Thank you.

I don’t know what kept me from getting a wood burner fitted in my unused fireplace sooner, the living room has been transformed and is now a much more cosy place to spend time. The communication was great and the work done to a really high standard, I would certainly recommend Paul at firebug to anyone wanting a stove installed.

H Braye

Paul is friendly, professional and knowledgeable. He was fantastic at giving advice on the various possible stove choices for our lounge. When it came to the install he was quick and tidy. We are extremely pleased with the end result. Highly recommended.
